Oh, such a brilliant post - I loved reading about your experience at the writing salon. Awesome!

Thank you too for taking me with you on your visit to London. It was great to have a ringside seat right here at my desk!

I really enjoy the hour-long Monday Write Along on Zoom with Julie B. Hughes of Run to Write. Writing in company - even - or especially - in silence - always makes such a difference to my writing 'oomph'!

Your Monday Write Along on Zoom has always sounded wonderful. I agree that the practice of silently writing alongside others is strangely productive and enjoyable. Writing can be such a solitary occupation that even being with others virtually is a lovely change of pace. And brilliant for focus. Thanks for your comments!

Awww, what a wonderful day! It was very uplifting to read about it. I really hope to make it to a live Writers' Hour one day. Or start one in Madrid...! Enjoy your travels!

And I hope to join you for one of those live writers hours in Madrid! I really hope you can organise that. It was great to see you on screen the next day too, even though you had to suffer through the singalong :). Thanks for your comments!

Soon I’ll be starting with an art group via zoom to do the same kind of thing you do with your group. The only exception being we can talk while creating. Like writing, art is a solitary sport, and I can’t wait to be with my people!

That's a great idea Amy! I know of similar activities and the artists seem to love their groups, just like I'm sure you will benefit too. Good luck and I hope to hear from you how it goes!

This writing group sounds wonderful! I also love the comparison to the beach huts, having seen them in person with you and been fascinated by the uniqueness. And I’m thrilled you loved “Guys and Dolls!” Can’t wait to discuss in person in the next few days!❤️

Thanks so much for the recommendation to go see it Lynn-it was really amazing. And hooray for writers groups, as you already know! xx

Loved this piece for several reasons but one is because of the detailed and true description of the writing process - the joy, pleasure, work, practice, solitariness, and community of it all. You wrote about it with much heart and soul. I also like the analogy to the beach huts. Together but apart, similar but different each reflecting the style of the different owners, all colorful in their own way.

How great you saw such a lively version of Guys and Dolls. A nice birthday treat.

I’m impressed you wrote your blog so quickly, maybe less than a day. Mine take much too long as a eake out every darn word.

My writing practice this week takes place at a glamping site at a beach in northern Spain. I sit outside on a large couch in the shade or shift to the sun on a bean bag chair depending on the sun, wind, and drizzle. Not the most efficient but a lovely change of pace and I don’t have to forego the practice just because I’m supposedly relaxing at the beach. I’m doing that too. Afterwards.

Love the idea of writing whilst glamping! And very smart to make sure you have full-fledged relaxing time too; that is the point of going away, isn't it?

Not sure I'll get the time in this next week for another post but we'll see. I'm currently battling jet lag, so naps are alternating with wonderful sunshine. Not too bad....

Sabrina- I like this beach hut analogy as it relates to writers. I'll be looking at ocean-front structures in a different way from now on for sure. Hope you're well this week. Cheers, -Thalia

Thanks so much Thalia! I was looking at the photo of those beach huts I had taken a few days before, and they reminded me of all the little squares of writers on my zoom screen lined up...I'm glad it resonated with you!

What an amazing day!

Just being a part of the writers' group would have been marvellous but putting everything together!

But the heat... and you didn't melt? Braver than I. I think I would have dashed to the nearest fountain and dived in!

It was such a lovely day, and I just wanted to be outside so much that I put up with the heat for short sprints. We did walk by a park with lots of water play and it was packed with both children and adults! I didn't do too much the next day as I think I needed to recover a bit...

Now I am in a very different time zone and fighting jet lag and enjoying more lovely warm, DRY heat. Much better! ❤️

Ah, I miss London. It’s always been one of my favorite cities to visit and it’s been too long! I’ve never seen Guys and Dolls and will have to check it out.
