So happy to hear how this all unfolded for you all! All’s well that ends well as they say….and that Madrid had such a wonderful response to the events! I was thinking of you all as the news broke here in the US, but decided not to text you both knowing that at least for a while you wouldn’t be able to see it in any case!

Enjoy the ongoing collaborations and travels and eager to hear more next week!

Plus LOVE your new espadrilles!!

Thanks for thinking of us Martha! We were very frustrated not to be able to send messages although sometimes we could get a quick note in.

Happy to hear you like the espadrilles-I can't wait to wear them (they are back at Andreas this week).

Lots to catch up on, that's for sure.

Bravo to you, you writer friends, and the rest of Spain for taking a lemon situation and making sangria.

Brilliant comment Lisa!

It really did seem like everyone quickly accepted there was nothing to do but embrace the bonus spring afternoon and celebrate together!

I loved reading about our experience from your perspective and knowing that, all in all, you and we got through it well. I'm thrilled that we're here together on this writing and life venture with Jayne. I think we should make it an annual habit. There's so much to see and do PLUS write, write, write, which I must say despite a few long bus rides, we've managed to get a lot accomplished.

I'm happy to go shopping for alpagatas, tiles from Granada, and anything else, anytime.

It is an adventure for sure! We are working hard together and alone, and mixing in some wonderful food, walks, and a little shopping too. Pretty perfect Spanish adventure.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

At first I was upset for you that the blackout was your welcome to Spain (and I was very upset that it disrupted our plans and first every face-to-face get together!), but now that it's all over (and it didn't last too long) I think it's kind of cool you were here with us at such an unusual moment. And, as you observed, it really did bring out the best in madrileños and you got to see a beautiful side to the city and its inhabitants.

Ps. I love your alpagatas

Pps. Collegiate is one of my favourite words 😊

Oh Jayne, thank you! And what a treat it has been to not only meet you but get to work alongside you and travel together. I love your amazing adopted city, even though I am not generally a city person. The Monday welcome was indeed a special one! Agreed: collegial is a great word.

I lived in Madrid for almost five years and still have friends there. Many of them have posted about the apagón and I've enjoyed reading about the ways they rode out the hours. I didn't hear about any looting or panic. I'm glad your experience was the same -- and that you got to meet Jayne and buy some alpargatas!

I'm glad to hear your friends experiences were similar. It really was an amazing—and heartening—response overall. And yes, so happy to finally meet Jayne, buy espadrilles and enjoy the places we are visiting too. And of course LOTS of writing time. I bet you are looking forward to your year in Lyon!

ooh, I'm so jealous of your writing retreat, but also your eating tortilla chips on a Spanish plaza (even with and maybe because of no electricity) and your espadrilles (especially the orange ones)!!!!

We'll have to set up our own creative/writers retreat sometime! With tortilla chips and shoe shopping! It's an unbeatable combination ❤️
