I’ll treasure this recounting of a peak collection of shared experiences so aptly and artistically told. 🎯 With the whole world on fire, and with our deeply empathetic minds and hearts, how do we manage to still find such simple and playful joy? I’m boundlessly mystified and appreciative.
Thanks Carol! It was a very special time to spend with longtime friends. Lots of beautiful places and more laughs and delicious food! Let’s just keep focusing on all the best things in life 🥰
This is another wonderful piece Sabrina - thank you!! I want to buy one of each type of espadrille in that wonderful store; and thank you also for the explanation of why meals in Spain are eaten SO much later than in other European countries - it has always mystified me! Such wonderful adventures you had in Spain, it makes me that much more eager to visit one day.
Thanks so much Martha! Yes, I will really struggle when I eventually go back and have to choose some number less than 100! Perhaps luckily for me I live in the UK where they are very impractical and can only wear when I am in California or visiting Spain! And yes, you should absolutely visit-! am certain you will enjoy yourselves.
Thank you for this awesome account of your experience of Spain and Spanish culture - I have never been, nor worn espadrilles, nor eaten in a restaurant a whole hour past the time I've usually fallen asleep! What a lovely journey you've taken me on this morning - another delightful post, Sabrina! 🇪🇸
Thanks so much Rebecca! Your comments made me chuckle! I was actually astonished to find myself awake and enjoying being up at 10:30 outside at a restaurant. I'm usually asleep by that time myself. But, I've also learned to go with the flow as best I can, and sometimes that magic happens, like being able to stay awake! Who knew?? 🤣🤣🤣
Needless to say, this was a wonderful piece. I enjoyed the content, memories, metaphors using time, and tying time-related strands together in a lovely way. I deeply appreciate the shout-out for my Substack posts and I've already acquired another subscriber. Thank you!
I relished your thoughts about sharing times with old friends (in the sense of friends from our youth :) ). As you'll see, I hit on a similar theme in my snippet Substack post this week. That's because there is little that brings more joy, in addition to being with our children, and makes us feel more fulfilled in this stage of our blessed lives. Every day I recall my good fortune to have such incredible life-long friends. And to combine that with travel adventures is the best. Here's to the next reunion near or far!
Wasn't that a joyful time???!!! I am so grateful to your lovely daughter and her now husband for including us. It was magical treat in every way. Made all the more so by all your guidance and help navigating our way through Spain. Sorry to tell you we WILL be back and will need to spend a LONG time at the espadrille store! 🤣
I have to say, I'd kill for a collection of the jars and brushes on a tray. Don't they look marvellous?
As for the espadrilles - I've never been a fan as a very high instep and curious arch make the flatness of the sole and the length of the canvas over the top of the foot a nightmare.
Time to spend doing other wonderful things, obviously.
The whole museum of the artist located in his house and studio was a treat! Visually stunning through and through. Plus his gardens were as masterfully designed -you would love it. And I get the weirdness of espadrilles. Not for everyone. :)

That is so interesting about the time zone!
It was certainly a surprise to learn about it!

And get there in the morning!
Wonderful memories.

So happy you were able to spend time with Andrea. Weird that we are now part of the older generation at weddings!
I am getting used to being the older generation now at weddings. I do think we still hold our own with time on the dance floor though!
