This is an excellent article, very well written. I did not know the many interesting and clever nuances in the design of that building, nor the contemporary historical context McCarthy hearings) during its design and construction that are so relevant today, and that inspired that remarkably handsome group of protestors to take to the streets!

Thank you Tim; very kind words. It was an inspiring tour which I then put together with some history I was reminded of recently and it clicked. Those ladies are the best, aren’t they?

What an amazing building and I love that it’s settled into greenery. I also love that your friends are standing up for freedom. Three cheers there.

Thank you for sharing this Sabrina. Being home in Marin County had the same effect on me. And it’s fascinating to hear the history and purpose of the Marin Civic Center. My father served for years on a county commission that met at the Civic Center, so that is a very special place for me as well.

You captured my feelings about the Civic Center and especially the library perfectly Sabrina - thank you! As well as the feel of the area…so wonderful to be back and to enjoy it again. Your words are a beautiful ribbon tied around a memorable present of a week.

It was glorious to visit some of our old haunts again with you! And I didn't remember about your father's participation on a county commission that met at the Civic Center; thanks so much for reminding me and sharing the building's importance to you too. ❤️

This was a great post; it put me right back on the dry, dusty trails and filled me with the scent of the chapparal bushes and bay trees.

I also loved the vicarious tour of the Civic Center. I've always wanted to do that so until I get a chance, this post gave me inspiring, heartwarming information about the architecture and Wright's values as he designed it. It's a fine example of the words of wisdome of Louis Sullivan his first and former boss of "Form follows function." The design is so relevant to today; you put that irony very well.

I agree with Tim's comment about the remarkably handsome group of protestors. You go, girls!
